Conference and Community

Practitioner Conference

We run an annual conference for ESOL practitioners and anyone interested in participatory teaching. The conference typically focuses on a particular theme and takes place over 1-3 days, featuring workshops and sessions on pedagogy, teaching techniques and exercises, sociolinguistics, and more.

Our 2023 conference will be held on 20 May at King’s College London, with the theme ‘Classrooms of Sanctuary and Struggle: Trauma-informed & Participatory ESOL.’ More info and tickets are available here.

Read our round-up on the 2022 conference, hosted alongside our Migreat! partners, which focused on changing public discourse around migration across Europe.

Community of Practice

In tandem, we co-facilitate a Community of Practice group that meets monthly to discuss the practice of teaching, or pedagogy. Each session generally revolves around a specific topic, and past meet-ups have covered elements such as LGBTQ+ inclusion in the ESOL classroom, Theatre of the Oppressed methods of ESOL teaching, and more. There is no cost to join the sessions, and all practitioners are welcome.

Do follow us on social media and sign up to our newsletter to ensure you hear any announcements and updates regarding the next conference, as well as for the monthly themes and dates of our free Community of Practice sessions.
