Our World: International politics, culture, and history discussion group

A weekly English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) class, exploring the history of racism and nationalism.Open to new and existing EFA students at Entry 3+ proficiency and higher.

In 2020, the EFA anti-racism working group agreed to set up a study group focussing on Black History, Colonialism and Nationalism. Last year, we launched ‘Our World’ with a broader frame — as a space where interested students can learn together about the global issues that are shaping our world and their historical contexts.

In this frame, students will be seen as representatives of a global diaspora. We hope to make this accessible to strong Entry 3 students and above. The fact that it is always participatory means that students generally get something out of it, and there’s a strong mixed ability core group of EFA students who attended throughout last year.

This class is open to all EFA students from across our seven hubs, as well as to English learners from outside of our existing student groups. It is meant to serve as an extracurricular ESOL class for existing students, but there is no obligation for interested participants to enrol in both this course and another ESOL course, if not interested.

The course will take place weekly, online, with two EFA teacher-organisers and two academics. If interested in joining, please contact Robin on 07585 439147 or at robin@efalondon.org to receive the link to the enrolment form.

The event is finished.
